The Pennsylvania Auditor General is the chief fiscal officer of Pennsylvania and Auditor Generals Office is responsible for auditing state agencies, municipal governments, school districts, public sector pensions, certain universities and hospitals that receive state funding, and corporate tax returns. The Auditor General preforms these audits to make sure that public monies are being spent in a responsible manner. The Auditor General also routinely preforms performance audits, which are used to measure a programs efficiency and effectiveness these audits are preformed on organizations such as veteran's homes, prisons, and mental health centers.
